Cuban Midnight Sandwiches

You won't be hungry after these!

Ingredients

Sweet bread rolls 4
Mayonnaise 1/2 cup
Prepared mustard 1/4 cup
Cooked ham 1 pound, thinly sliced
Fully cooked pork 1 pound, thinly sliced
Swiss cheese 1 pound, sliced
Dill pickle slices 1 cup
Butter 2 tablespoons, melted

12 minutes to prepare, 8 minutes to cook, ready in 23 minutes

Even if the United States and Cuba never relax in terms of travel, here’s an opportunity to sample one of their classic dishes.

Step 1: Cut the rolls down the middle.

Step 2: Spread the mayonnaise on one half, and the mustard on the other – be generous with them!

Step 3: On the mustard side, in exactly this order, place an equal amount of… the cheese, the ham, then the pork, then a few of those pickles on each one.

Step 4: Put the mayonnaise side on top, and brush them with your melted butter.

Step 5: Set a sandwich press to a medium-high heat, and press each sandwich into it. Don’t have a sandwich press? No problem! Use your stove, and put the sandwiches in a skillet over a medium high heat, and press down on them with a plate or another skillet.

Step 6: Keep them pressed for between five and eight minutes. If you’re using the skillet method, you might want to turn them over once, just so they’re evenly browned on both sides.

Step 7: Slice them across and serve.

 

It’s pretty straightforward, but it’s the rolls with the butter on top that makes these.
